Ohio man arrested for slamming child on floor, causing skull fracture

OHIO — A Piqua man is facing serious charges after reportedly slamming a 1-year-old girl on the floor, causing a skull fracture and other severe injuries.

Michael Mayor, 34, was indicted last week on charges of felonious assault and endangering children, according to Miami County Common Pleas Court records.

The charges stem from a December 5 incident when Piqua police and EMS responded to a report of a toddler who was breathing but unresponsive.

The child had been dropped off at a babysitter’s home earlier that morning. The babysitter left the girl in Mayor’s care while taking other children to school.

According to police, Mayor admitted to shaking the girl and slamming her on the bedroom floor multiple times after she wouldn’t stop crying while he tried to put her down for a nap.

When the babysitter returned, the toddler appeared to be sleeping.

She checked on the child throughout the day but became alarmed when the girl was still unresponsive by 3 p.m. At that point, she called for emergency assistance.

The child was flown to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where doctors discovered a skull fracture, a subdural hematoma, and other “complex” injuries consistent with significant trauma.

Mayor remains in custody at the Miami County Jail on a $1 million bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
