NORTH RIDGEVILLE — North Ridgeville police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are taking a firm stand against speeding and reckless driving.

The two agencies teamed up earlier this month for a targeted traffic enforcement operation, resulting in more than 30 traffic stops and several citations, including felony charges against one driver.

The operation took place on Nov. 9 over a two-hour period along State Route 10, where officers focused on the 65 MPH speed zone.

Police issued 30 citations for speeding, along with citations for reckless operation and driving under suspension.

The most serious case involved a motorcyclist clocked at 84 MPH, 19 miles over the limit.

When an officer attempted a traffic stop, the motorcyclist, identified as 30-year-old Firas Almukdad of Elyria, allegedly fled at speeds exceeding 100 MPH.

Due to the high speeds, officers did not engage in a pursuit, but an Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter tracked the motorcycle from above.

Ground units were then able to apprehend Almukdad.

Almukdad faces charges of speeding, reckless operation, and felony failure to comply. He was taken into custody and booked at the Lorain County Jail.

The enforcement effort highlights the agencies’ commitment to keeping roadways safe by targeting dangerous driving behaviors.
