OHIO — Authorities have identified the 22-year-old man killed in an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning, as well as the deputy who fired the fatal shots.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist Celina police officers at Dockside Marathon, 303 S. Main Street, around 3 a.m., following reports of a man armed with a knife.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered Moses Alik, 22, who reportedly brandished the knife at officers.
According to the sheriff’s office, a Celina officer deployed a taser in an attempt to subdue Alik, but it failed to stop him.
Cruiser camera footage released by authorities shows Alik raising the knife above his head and charging toward Deputy Spencer Heinl. Deputy Heinl then fired multiple shots, striking Alik.
Alik was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputy Heinl has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol, as the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) conducts an investigation into the incident.
No additional details have been released at this time.
