OHIO — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has declared a state of emergency following significant damage to the Ohio approach of the I-471 Daniel Carter Bridge.
The damage occurred after a fire broke out on November 1, spreading to the overpass and causing severe harm to the bridge’s southbound support girders, deck, and support structures.
“This state of emergency is necessary due to the dangerous condition and damages on the Ohio approach to the I-471 Daniel Carter Bridge,” DeWine said in a statement Wednesday.
The emergency declaration allows the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to access federal funds for immediate repairs.
The goal is to restore the bridge and reopen the highway as quickly as possible.
