Ohio county cancels Fourth of July fireworks due to costs

OHIO — The Gallia County Chamber of Commerce has announced that there will be no fireworks display for this year’s Fourth of July celebration due to financial constraints.

In a statement, the Chamber expressed disappointment, saying it is unable to afford the cost of the fireworks this year.

All donations received for both the 2024 and 2025 fireworks displays have been returned to contributors.

“We are as disappointed as you are to share this news,” the Chamber said.

Despite the cancellation, the Gallipolis River Recreation Festival will still offer a full day of events on July 4.

Activities include the Pretty Baby Contest at 8 a.m., the Rotary Mile Run at 10:30 a.m., a parade at 11 a.m., and children’s activities hosted by the Lions Club beginning at 1 p.m.

Additionally, the First Friday Committee is preparing a festive evening in downtown Gallipolis to help ensure the community can still enjoy the holiday.
