OHIO — A Bellevue city councilman has been arrested on a series of serious criminal charges, according to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office.
Joseph Burkart, a Republican at-large council member for the city of Bellevue, was taken into custody Friday, Sept. 19.
Authorities say he faces seven charges, including strangulation, burglary, tampering with evidence, menace by stalking, possession of drugs, assault, and telecommunications harassment.
Few details have been released about the incident that led to Burkart’s arrest. Court records show his next hearing is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m. in Bellevue Municipal Court.
The case remains under investigation.
