OHIO — A North Carolina woman is facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized nearly $550,000 worth of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop in Jackson County.
Troopers initiated the stop around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 35 at the East Broadway Street exit after noticing a vehicle traveling well above the speed limit. During the stop, a K-9 unit alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 17 packages containing approximately 46 pounds of suspected cocaine. The patrol estimates the street value of the drugs at about $546,000.
The driver, identified as 29-year-old Justice Simon of Charlotte, North Carolina, was taken into custody without incident. Simon is being held in the Jackson County Jail and faces charges of felony drug possession and drug trafficking.
