NORTH CAROLINA — Several school systems and county offices in North Carolina and nearby areas have announced schedule changes for Monday, December 15, 2025, due to hazardous travel conditions caused by icy roads.
In western North Carolina, Avery County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, allowing crews additional time to assess road conditions and ensure safer travel for students and staff. Madison County Schools will also open two hours late, with officials noting that no buses will run on icy roads, particularly in higher elevation areas.
Yancey County Schools announced a two-hour delay as well and will likewise restrict bus service on icy roadways. In Mitchell County, government offices will open at 9 a.m., while Mitchell County Schools will operate with bus routes delayed by one hour, and no buses will travel on roads considered unsafe due to ice.
Additionally, Martinsville City Schools reported a two-hour delay for Monday morning operations.
School officials across the region are urging families to use caution during the morning commute and to continue monitoring official school communications for any updates or additional changes as weather and road conditions evolve.
