North Carolina gas prices continue to climb as state average nears $4

NORTH CAROLINA — Gas prices across North Carolina remain elevated as drivers continue to feel the impact of rising fuel costs. According to data from AAA, the statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline currently stands at $3.917 per gallon, down slightly from $3.935 reported yesterday but still significantly higher than a month ago.

The current average reflects a notable increase compared to $3.322 per gallon a month ago and $2.925 per gallon at the same time last year. The upward trend follows a pattern of climbing fuel prices seen both statewide and nationally in recent weeks.

Mid-grade gasoline is averaging $4.364 per gallon across North Carolina, while premium fuel has reached $4.760. Diesel fuel remains considerably higher, averaging $5.772 per gallon statewide.

Price trends vary across the state’s metro areas. Asheville is currently averaging $3.946 for regular gasoline, while drivers in Raleigh are paying about $3.938 per gallon. In Charlotte, the average price for regular fuel is $3.899, and in Greensboro it stands at $3.918. Coastal cities are also seeing elevated prices, with Wilmington reporting an average of $3.956 for regular gasoline.

Despite a small decrease from yesterday’s statewide average, prices remain substantially higher than a year ago. Industry analysts say elevated crude oil prices and continued demand have contributed to the increases at the pump.

The highest recorded statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline in North Carolina was $4.671, set on June 13, 2022. Diesel fuel hit a record high of $5.813 on April 7, 2026.

With prices remaining high, officials continue to encourage drivers to conserve fuel where possible and monitor local price trends.
