OHIO — The Stark County Sheriff’s Office has announced plans to conduct sobriety checkpoints on Saturday, July 26, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat impaired driving.

According to a press release, the checkpoints will be held in Sugarcreek Township in partnership with the Stark County OVI Task Force.

While specific times and locations have not been released, officials emphasized that the checkpoints are legal under a 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, which requires public notification in advance.

“Officers will conduct a roadside check of drivers for alcohol and drug impairment and will be vigilant in detecting and apprehending impaired drivers,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “Impaired driving is never acceptable. If consuming alcohol or drugs, make the responsible choice to plan ahead for a safe, sober ride home.”

Meanwhile, officials in Summit County began similar enforcement efforts Friday evening, conducting checkpoints at various undisclosed locations that continued into the early morning hours of Saturday.
