VIRGINIA — A number of school divisions across Virginia have announced closings and delays for Wednesday as icy roads, leftover snow and frigid temperatures continue to affect travel and safety following this month’s winter storm.
In Northern Virginia, the Fairfax County Public Schools confirmed that classes will be canceled Wednesday, citing hazardous conditions from accumulated snow and ice. Central administrative offices will open on a two-hour delay to allow crews more time for cleanup.
Prince William County Public Schools will also be closed to students and teachers Wednesday, with all activities—including after-school programs and athletics—canceled. Staff reporting rules vary by position.
Several other local divisions announced closures Wednesday as well:
- Stafford County Public Schools — all schools, offices and buildings closed; activities canceled.
- Spotsylvania County Public Schools — closed; only essential personnel to report as needed.
- Manassas City Public Schools — closed under a Code Blue weather designation.
- Manassas Park City Schools — closed; sidewalks and walkways still being cleared.
- Fredericksburg City Public Schools — all buildings closed due to icy roads, parking lots and walkways.
On the Eastern Shore, Northampton County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Wednesday due to continued below-freezing temperatures and slick conditions; breakfast will not be served.
In parts of southwestern and western Virginia, additional districts are also reporting closures or delays as conditions remain unsafe in some communities due to snow and ice.
Officials continue to urge parents and guardians to check directly with their local school districts for the latest updates, as winter conditions can change quickly and prompt new schedule adjustments.
