Multiple schools in Virginia announce closures for Tuesday

VIRGINIA — Several school divisions across southwest Virginia have announced closures, delays, and virtual learning plans for Tuesday, December 16, 2025, as districts adjust schedules in response to conditions impacting travel and school operations.

Tazewell County Schools will be closed for the day. Bland County Schools and Giles County Schools will shift to virtual learning Tuesday, allowing students to complete coursework remotely rather than reporting to classrooms.

A number of school systems will operate on a two-hour delayed start. Smyth County Schools and Wythe County Public Schools both announced they will open two hours late.

In addition, multiple town and county school systems across the region will follow a two-hour delay, including Clintwood Schools, Independence Schools, Jonesville Schools, Norton City Schools, Gate City Schools, Marion Schools, Erwin Schools, Washington County Public Schools, and Wise County Public Schools.

Parents and students are encouraged to monitor official school websites, social media pages, and automated messaging systems for the latest information as conditions continue to be evaluated.
