VIRGINIA — Several school divisions across Virginia will be closed or delayed on Monday, December 8, 2025, as snow and hazardous road conditions are set to affect the region.
Many systems in Southwest, Central, and Southside Virginia announced closures Sunday evening, citing safety concerns for buses and staff.
In the Roanoke Valley, Roanoke City Schools, Roanoke County Public Schools, Radford City Schools, and Botetourt County Schools will be closed Monday. Radford has issued Employee Code 1, while Botetourt employees will follow Employee Code 4. Ivybrook Academy–Roanoke will also be closed.
Across Southwest Virginia, Amherst County Schools will be closed with Employee Code 1, and Bland County Schoolswill operate on a two-hour delay. Grayson County Schools will conduct remote learning for the day, with students participating in virtual instruction instead of attending in person.
In Southside and Central Virginia, multiple divisions are also shutting down due to winter weather. Amelia County, Brunswick County, Dinwiddie County, Prince Edward County, and Sussex County Schools will all be closed Monday. Prince Edward schools also announced no evening activities. Fuqua School, a private school in Farmville, will close as well.
One North Carolina district affected by the same weather system, Perquimans County Schools, has also announced it will close Monday.
School divisions urge families to monitor official announcements for updates and potential schedule changes for Tuesday, as freezing temperatures may continue to impact road conditions.
