Multiple schools in Texas announce closures for Wednesday

TEXAS — A number of school districts across Texas have announced closures and delayed openings for Wednesday amid lingering hazardous conditions from a recent winter storm that brought snow, ice and dangerously low temperatures to parts of the state. The weather event, part of a broader North American winter storm system, has left roads slick and travel unsafe in some regions.

In North Texas, several major districts, including Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD, will remain closed Wednesdaybecause of ongoing icy road conditions and concerns about student and staff safety. Other area school systems in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex — such as Frisco, Denton, Richardson, Plano and others — also reported closures or were monitoring conditions before finalizing their schedules.

Across the Texoma region, numerous districts will be closed all day due to hazardous road conditions. Those closures include Wichita Falls ISD, Olney ISD, Nocona ISD, Jacksboro ISD, Bowie ISD, Burkburnett ISD and a number of smaller systems. Some districts in the area — such as Quanah ISD and Seymour ISD — have announced delayed start times Wednesday to allow for safer travel in the morning.

In Central Texas, many districts that were affected by ice and cold this week are expected to resume normal operations Wednesday as temperatures rise and road conditions improve, although officials continue to monitor for potential refreezing and localized hazards.

Because conditions remain changeable in some parts of the state, officials urged families to check with their local school districts for the latest schedule updates and possible midday changes.
