Multiple schools in Tennessee announce closures for Monday

TENNESSEE — Schools across Tennessee will remain closed Monday as dangerous travel conditions and lingering impacts from last week’s powerful winter storm continue to disrupt daily routines for students and families.

Several districts throughout the state announced Monday closures due to icy roads, power outages and safety concerns following a major storm that brought snow, ice and frigid temperatures to the Mid-South region.

In Middle Tennessee, multiple school systems — including Metro Nashville Public SchoolsSumner County Schools and others — will be closed Monday. The closures affect districts from Davidson and Cheatham counties to Putnam, Robertson, Wilson and Williamson counties. Many will remain closed through Tuesday or reopen with adjusted schedules later in the week.

Officials in Giles County and Lawrence County confirmed their schools will be closed Monday, citing unsafe travel conditions even though most roads may appear clear. Both districts said they expect to reopen Tuesday.

Further west, dozens of West Tennessee districts also announced closures through Monday and into later in the week due to accumulated ice and ongoing recovery efforts. Among those impacted are Carroll CountyChester CountyDecatur CountyHaywood CountyHardeman CountyHenry CountyHumboldt City Schools and others. Some institutions, including Bethel University, will remain closed or shift to remote operations.

The extended period of school closings comes as a result of an unusually severe winter storm that struck the region in late January, leaving thousands without power and widespread hazardous conditions. Local officials continue cleanup and restoration work but say travel remains unsafe in many areas.

Parents and guardians are advised to check with their local school district websites or social media pages for the latest updates, as reopening plans and schedules may change based on local weather conditions and transportation safety.
