SOUTH CAROLINA — A number of school districts across South Carolina have already announced closures or schedule changes for Monday, Jan. 26, as a winter storm is expected to impact the state this weekend and into early next week.
Confirmed changes for Monday include:
- Several districts, including Kershaw County School District, Newberry County School District, Lexington County School District 3, and Abbeville County Schools, will operate on e-learning days Monday, with students learning from home rather than attending in person.
- School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties and Fairfield County School District also plan e-learning schedules Monday and have canceled extracurricular activities through the weekend and Monday.
- Districts including Anderson County, Pickens County, Spartanburg County School District Six, Union County Schools, Laurens County Districts 55 and 56, will also shift to remote learning as a precaution ahead of hazardous weather.
- Universities such as Clemson University and Anderson University have announced that classes will move online for Monday, and Lander University will hold virtual instruction through Tuesday.
- Some districts say they may adjust Tuesday schedules after observing Monday’s weather conditions.
Officials have advised families to prepare for winter weather impacts, including potential ice, freezing rain, and hazardous roads, and to monitor communications from individual districts and local authorities for updates.
