Multiple schools in Pennsylvania to close this week

PENNSYLVANIA — Many public schools across Pennsylvania are expected to be closed in observance of Good Friday in 2026, based on district calendars from across the state.

Good Friday falls on April 3, 2026. While Pennsylvania does not require a uniform statewide school holiday schedule, local school districts independently set their academic calendars. However, a review of multiple districts shows a consistent pattern: many schools will not hold classes that day.

In the School District of Philadelphia, the state’s largest district, Good Friday is specifically listed as a day when schools and administrative offices are closed.

Other districts close as part of a broader spring or Easter break. In the Pittsburgh Public Schools, April 3 falls within spring break, meaning students are already out of school.

Similarly, the Colonial School District lists Good Friday as a closure during its spring break period, with schools and offices shut down for the day. In the Bethlehem Area School District, schools are closed from April 2 through April 6 for Easter and spring break, which includes Good Friday.

Across Pennsylvania, there is no centralized school calendar, but district schedules show a clear trend: the majority of public schools will be closed on Good Friday 2026, either as a designated holiday or because it falls within spring break.

Families are advised to check with their local district for exact schedules, as a small number of systems may remain open or structure their calendars differently.
