PENNSYLVANIA — Due to winter weather conditions, numerous schools, universities, and government offices across Pennsylvania have announced closures, delays, or transitions to remote learning for Thursday, February 6, 2025.
Closed Schools
Many public and private schools are closed for the day, including:
Public Schools: Athens Area, Bald Eagle Area, Blue Mountain, Carbondale Area, Crestwood, Delaware Valley, Dunmore, East Lycoming, East Stroudsburg Area, Loyalsock, Montoursville Area, North Pocono, North Schuylkill, Pittston Area, Southern Williamsport Area, Tamaqua Area, Towanda Area, Troy Area, Valley View, Wallenpaupack Area, Warrior Run, Wayne Highlands, Weatherly Area, and Western Wayne.
Private and Religious Schools: All Saints Academy, Assumption B.V.M. (Pottsville), Holy Cross, Holy Family Academy, Holy Redeemer, Marian Catholic (Tamaqua), Notre Dame Elementary (East Stroudsburg), Our Lady of Lourdes Regional, Our Lady of Peace, St. Clair Area, St. Jerome Regional (Tamaqua), St. Mary Mt. Carmel (Dunmore), St. Nicholas (Minersville), and Wyoming Area Catholic.
Career & Technical Schools: Schuylkill AVTS North and South, Monroe County Career & Tech, Lycoming CTC, and Northern Tier Career Center.
Schools with Delayed Openings
Several districts have opted for delayed openings:
Two-Hour Delays: Bloomsburg Area, Central Columbia, Columbia County Christian, Elk Lake, Millville Area, Shikellamy, Southern Columbia, and Susquehanna Community Schools.
Three-Hour Delays: Danville Area, Mount Carmel Area, N’umberland County CTC, Old Forge, and Selinsgrove Area.
Higher Education Delays: Pennsylvania College of Technology will start classes at 11 a.m., while Commonwealth University campuses (Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield) will also begin at 11 a.m.
Remote Learning & Flexible Instruction Days
Some districts have shifted to remote or flexible instruction instead of closing:
Public Schools: Abington Heights, Berwick Area, Forest City Regional, Greater Nanticoke Area, Hazleton Area, Jersey Shore Area, Lake-Lehman, Mahanoy Area, Mifflinburg Area, Panther Valley, Pottsville Area, Riverside, Shamokin Area, Southern Tioga, Tunkhannock Area, Wyoming Area, and Wyoming Valley West.
Private & Religious Schools: Graham Academy, St. Jude (Mount Top), and St. Nicholas-Mary’s (Wilkes-Barre).
Higher Education & Career Schools: Luzerne County Community College will operate on a compressed schedule, while Penn State Scranton and Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be closed.
Government & Business Closures and Delays
Closed: The Capitol Complex in Harrisburg, Cumberland County Senior Centers, and various social service organizations, including Aurora Social Rehab locations in Cumberland and Dauphin counties.
Delayed Openings: Adams County Courthouse and Cumberland County Government offices will open at 11 a.m. Adams County Technical Institute and Big Spring Schools have shifted to virtual learning for the day.
