Multiple schools in Ohio could close this week

OHIO — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for several parts of Ohio as snow and strong winds move into the region, creating hazardous travel conditions that could lead to school closures this week.

According to the National Weather Service, lake-effect snow and scattered snow showers are expected to continue through Monday night and into Tuesday. Some areas could receive between 1 and 4 inches of additional snowfall, with winds gusting as high as 35 to 45 mph.

The advisory affects parts of eastern and northeastern Ohio, including Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson, Belmont, Monroe, Mahoning, Trumbull, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties.

Forecasters warn that roads, bridges and overpasses could become slick and hazardous, especially during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Reduced visibility and blowing snow may also make travel difficult in some areas.

Conditions could impact school schedules in affected counties, and districts may consider delays or closures if road conditions worsen overnight.

Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. The Ohio Department of Transportation recommends checking current road conditions before heading out, as conditions may change quickly due to lake-effect snow bands.

The advisory is expected to remain in effect through late Monday night or Tuesday afternoon in some areas as snowfall and gusty winds continue.
