Multiple schools in Ohio announce closures for Tuesday

OHIO — Continuing winter conditions from a powerful storm that blanketed much of Ohio with snow and frigid temperatures have led numerous school districts across the state to cancel in-person classes or adjust schedules for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.

Central Ohio and Major Districts

Across central Ohio, many districts will not hold traditional in-person instruction on Tuesday, citing dangerous road conditions and extreme cold following the weekend’s snowfall. Columbus City Schools announced no school on Tuesday, and extracurricular activities are canceled as well.

Additional central Ohio schools also reported closures through Tuesday, including:

  • Circleville City Schools (closed)
  • Westfall Local School (closed)
  • Logan Elm Schools (closed)
  • Teays Valley Schools (closed)
  • Pickaway-Ross Career Technical Center (closed)
These closures follow extended snow emergencies in several counties, which have kept travel hazardous across the region.

Eastern and Southeastern Ohio

In eastern Ohio, particularly in and around the Zanesville and Muskingum County area, multiple districts are closed Tuesday due to snow and cold conditions. Among those listed are:

  • Anchor Christian Academy
  • Bishop Fenwick
  • Bishop Rosecrans
  • Caldwell Schools
  • Coshocton City Schools
  • Crooksville Schools
  • East Muskingum Schools
  • Foxfire Schools
  • Franklin Local Schools
  • Maysville Local Schools
  • Morgan Local Schools
  • Noble Local Schools
  • Northern Local Schools
  • Ridgewood Schools
  • River View Schools
  • West Muskingum Schools
  • Zanesville City Schools
  • Zane State College (closed)
  • Muskingum County Head Start/early Head Start (closed)
    and others.

Tuscarawas County Area

School officials in Tuscarawas County say several districts will be closed on both Monday and Tuesday because of the winter storm, including:

  • Buckeye Career Center
  • Claymont City Schools
  • Dover City Schools
  • Newcomerstown Exempted Village Schools
  • New Philadelphia City Schools
  • Ridgewood Local Schools
  • Strasburg Franklin Local Schools
  • Tusky Valley Local Schools
Some adult education programs at Buckeye Career Center will operate on a 2-hour delay Tuesday

Weather and Travel Conditions

The closures and schedule changes come after Winter Storm Fern dropped heavy snow across Ohio, prompting snow emergencies and hazardous travel conditions statewide. A Level 3 snow emergency in parts of southern Ohio restricted travel to essential vehicles only. Forecasts also called for extreme cold and dangerously low wind chills Tuesday, reinforcing caution among school officials.

Summary of Impact

  • Major urban districts and many rural schools will not have in-person learning on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
  • Several schools in eastern and southeastern Ohio are closed due to snow and ice
  • Some institutions are employing delayed starts or remote education options where feasible.

Officials continue to update closures as conditions change, and families are advised to check with local districts for the latest information.
