Multiple schools in North Carolina could close Friday

NORTH CAROLINA — With a winter weather system moving in late Thursday night, many North Carolina school districts are reviewing the possibility of closing or delaying classes Friday morning.

Meteorologists warn that the storm could bring a widespread dusting of snow — potentially up to an inch in some areas — with the precipitation expected to begin overnight.

Because even light snow or freezing rain can make roads hazardous, districts are likely watching road and weather conditions closely before deciding.

As has been common in past snow events, decisions about delays or closures are typically made early morning. Some school systems notify families via phone, text, or social‑media alerts by about 5:00–6:00 a.m. Friday.

In parts of central North Carolina, even a marginal amount of snow or ice has triggered delays or cancellations when school buses cannot travel safely or streets remain slick.

Parents and students are advised to keep a close watch on local media and school‑system communications Thursday night and early Friday for any announcement.

If roads prove dangerous, school may be delayed, dismissed early, or canceled altogether — especially in counties north and west of Raleigh where colder air and precipitation are most likely.
