KENTUCKY — Schools across Kentucky have announced a range of closures, non-traditional instruction (NTI) days and virtual learning for Wednesday as lingering winter weather conditions continue to make travel hazardous throughout the region.

Several county school systems in western and northwestern Kentucky will observe NTI days — meaning students learn from home — instead of in-person classes Wednesday: Daviess County Public Schools, Owensboro Public Schools, Owensboro Catholic Schools, St. Mary of the Woods School/Trinity High School, Mary Carrico Catholic School, Grace Christian Academy, Heritage Christian School, McLean County Public Schools, Ohio County Public Schools (through Jan. 30), Muhlenberg County Public Schools and others.

In eastern Kentucky, many districts will be closed or operating under NTI plans: Floyd County Schools, Johnson County Schools, Knott County Schools, Lawrence County Schools, Magoffin County Schools, Martin County Schools, Pike County Schools and Wolfe County Schools are among those not holding regular in-person classes Wednesday. Several private and independent schools, including New Hope Christian Academy, Our Lady of the Mountains School, Paintsville Independent Schools and Piarist School, also listed closures or NTI days

In northern KentuckyBoone County Schools announced that all schools will be closed Wednesday due to uncleared or partially cleared roads.

Higher education also reported weather-related schedule changes: Western Kentucky University has closed all campuses and canceled classes Wednesday due to hazardous conditions on campus and surrounding areas. Additionally, the University of Kentucky canceled in-person classes for Wednesday statewide because of the weather.

Officials throughout the state are reminding families to check individual school messages or district websites for the latest updates, as conditions remain unpredictable and further changes are possible due to ongoing winter impacts.
