KENTUCKY — Schools across Kentucky have announced a mix of closings, delayed starts and remote learning days for Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, as the state continues to deal with the aftermath of heavy snow, ice and bitter cold from this month’s winter storm.
In Louisville and Jefferson County, Jefferson County Public Schools said students will start school two hours later than normal Monday. Buses will run on an adjusted schedule, and officials asked families to plan for extra travel time and confirm bus route details.
Elsewhere in the state, many districts are keeping schools closed for the day. Several systems are marking Monday as a non-traditional instruction (NTI) day, meaning students will complete schoolwork remotely, while others are calling it a traditional snow day with no instructional expectations.
Among districts reporting full closures Monday are Trigg County Schools and Todd County School District, both of which said classes will not be held due to hazardous travel conditions.
Other closures and schedule changes include:
- Muhlenberg County Schools — NTI Day
- Berea Community Schools — Closed, NTI Day
- Harlan County Schools — Closed Monday
- Jessamine County Schools — Closed, snow day
- Numerous other smaller districts reporting closures or delays across the state.
Some schools, including early learning centers and private academies, are opting for short delays Monday rather than full closures.
Officials say the decisions are based on current road conditions, ongoing snow removal efforts and projected temperatures that remain well below freezing in many areas. Families are encouraged to check with local districts for the most up-to-date schedule information, as plans may shift if weather conditions improve.
