Multiple schools in Kentucky announce closures for Monday

KENTUCKY — A large number of school districts, Head Start programs, and private schools across Kentucky have announced closures, delays, and virtual learning days for Monday, December 15, 2025, as winter weather continues to affect road conditions and travel safety across the region.

Several public school systems will be closed and operating under Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days, including Breathitt County, Estill County, Fleming County, Floyd County, Franklin County, Harrison County, Jackson County, Lawrence County, Leslie County, Mason County, Nicholas County, Robertson County, Rowan County, Scott County, Wolfe County, and Boyd County Public Schools, which noted Monday will be NTI Day #3

Bourbon County, Bracken County, Paris Independent, Lewis County, and Rowan County reported traditional snow daysGrant County, Henry County, and Augusta Independent Schools also announced full closures.

Several districts will shift to virtual learning, including Carroll County Schools, Oldham County Schools, and Washington County SchoolsJackson Independent Schools will conduct classes virtually as part of an NTI day.

Some schools will operate on delayed schedules, including Barbourville Independent Schools and Knox County, both opening two hours lateBig Sandy Career and Technical Center in Prestonsburg will open with a three-hour delay, while Waco Christian Academy will open at 9:30 a.m. and Children’s Montessori School of Georgetown will open one hour late.

Multiple Head Start programs across the state, including those in Bath, Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason, Menifee, Morgan, and Rowan counties, will be closed for the day.

School officials urge families to continue monitoring district communications and to use caution while traveling as weather conditions evolve.
