INDIANA — Most public schools across Indiana are expected to be closed in observance of Good Friday in 2026, based on district calendars from around the state.
Good Friday falls on April 3, 2026, and is recognized as an official state holiday in Indiana. State offices are closed, and many school districts align their academic calendars with the holiday.
Several school systems have explicitly listed Good Friday as a no-school day. Mishawaka Schools, Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools, and Tri-County School Corporation all show April 3 as “Good Friday – No School” on their 2025–2026 calendars.
Other districts also indicate closures tied directly to the holiday. Elkhart Community Schools lists “Good Friday – No School” alongside a broader spring break period, confirming that students and staff will be off that day.
In many parts of the state, schools will be closed as part of spring break rather than a standalone holiday.
Districts such as those in Marion County—including Indianapolis-area systems like Pike Township, Warren Township, and Washington Township—schedule spring break from late March through April 3, meaning students are already out of school on Good Friday.
Because Indiana does not have a centralized statewide school calendar, each district determines its own schedule. However, a review of multiple systems shows a consistent trend: the majority of public schools across the state will be closed on Good Friday 2026, either as a designated holiday or because it falls within spring break.
Families are advised to check with their local district for exact schedules, as a small number of systems may structure their calendars differently.
