INDIANA — A Winter Storm Watch in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening for parts of Indiana could bring enough snow to disrupt school schedules across the region.
Rain is expected to develop this afternoon as temperatures reach the mid-40s to low 50s. Overnight, that precipitation is forecast to mix with or change to snow, with light accumulation on grassy and elevated surfaces.
The main impact is expected from late Sunday through Monday, when moderate to heavy snow is likely.
Forecasters are calling for 6 to 12 inches of snowfall across much of the area, with higher totals possible in elevated communities. Some locations — including La Porte, Knox and Valparaiso — could see more than a foot of snow.
The timing of the snowfall is expected to affect both the Monday morning and evening commutes, potentially creating dangerous travel conditions. Slick roads, reduced visibility and slow-moving traffic are all possible.

Because of the expected impact on travel, multiple school districts may need to consider delays or closures, particularly on Monday. Parents and students are encouraged to monitor local district announcements.
