INDIANA — Dense fog expected to develop overnight and continue into Monday morning could result in school delays or closures across parts of Indiana on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.
According to the National Weather Service, fog is expected to form late Sunday and persist into the early morning hours. Widespread visibility of less than one mile is likely, with some areas potentially experiencing dense fog that reduces visibility to as low as one-quarter mile.
Such low visibility can create hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute, particularly for school buses operating on rural roads and highways before sunrise. Fog can make it difficult for drivers to see other vehicles, stop signs, traffic lights and pedestrians, increasing the risk of crashes.
School administrators typically assess road conditions in the early morning hours before making decisions on delays or closures. If visibility is significantly reduced or conditions are deemed unsafe for bus travel, districts may implement a delay to allow fog to lift after sunrise. In cases where dense fog lingers longer than expected, some schools could cancel classes for the day.
