Multiple schools in Georgia announce early dismissals for Monday

GEORGIA — The City Schools of Decatur are sending all students home immediately Monday after a 36-inch water main broke on Midway Road, the district announced. DeKalb County Watershed is responding, but there is no timetable for repairs.

“At CSD, your child’s health and well-being are our highest priorities. Due to safety and sanitation concerns, we will close all schools, including College Heights and the Frasier Center, as well as offices, for today, Dec. 1,” the district said.

Parents were asked to arrange student pick-up as soon as possible. Bus schedules were adjusted for affected schools: Beacon Hill Middle School and Decatur High School buses left at 10 a.m.; Fifth Avenue Upper Elementary and Talley Elementary at 10:30 a.m.; and Clairemont, Glennwood, Oakhurst, Westchester, and Winnona Park at 11 a.m.

The district will provide Chromebooks to students in grades 3–12, and work will be sent home for students in kindergarten through 2nd grade. All after-school programs and athletics were canceled.

Three schools—Avondale Elementary, DeKalb School of the Arts, and Wadsworth Magnet School—relocated students temporarily while repairs are made. DCSD said it informed parents about dismissal and relocation procedures, and is providing support and meals at accommodating schools.

“DCSD remains committed to ensuring continuity of learning and student safety throughout this temporary change,” the district said, thanking families and hosting schools for their flexibility and support.
