FLORIDA — Many students across Florida will be out of school on Good Friday this year, though schedules vary by district.
Good Friday falls on April 3, 2026, and according to school calendars, students in 49 of Florida’s 67 counties will not have classes that day. Several districts are also extending closures into a long weekend or Easter break.
Among the counties where schools will be closed on Good Friday are Miami-Dade County, Hillsborough County, Broward County, Palm Beach County, and Duval County. Other districts across the state—including Lee, Polk, Pinellas, Brevard, and Marion counties—also list no school on April 3.
In some areas, the closure is part of a longer holiday. For example, districts in Franklin County, Gulf County, and Hendry County will observe an extended Easter break that runs through the following Monday.
Additionally, students in Indian River County and Pasco County will already be on spring break from March 30 through April 3, meaning Good Friday falls within their scheduled time off.
While most districts are closed, not all Florida schools observe Good Friday as a holiday. In 18 counties, classes will still be in session, and a few districts will operate on modified schedules such as early dismissal.
School officials note that each district sets its own academic calendar, which is why holiday schedules differ across the state.
For students in districts observing the holiday, Good Friday will provide a day off near the end of the school year, with most Florida schools wrapping up the academic year between late May and early June.
