Multiple schools in Arkansas announce closures for Tuesday

0

ARKANSAS — After a significant winter storm brought snow, ice and dangerous road conditions across much of Arkansas, numerous school districts have announced closures or adjusted schedules for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026. Lingering snow and ice on roadways and continued cold prompted many districts to cancel in-person classes to ensure student and staff safety.

Widespread Closures Across the State

Many school systems in Northwest Arkansas, the River Valley and Central Arkansas reported that they would be closed Tuesday following hazardous winter weather:

  • Districts across Northwest Arkansas, including Ozark Schools, and other local systems, indicated closures for Tuesday due to ongoing snow and ice on roads.
  • Little Rock School District schools and central offices announced they will be closed through Tuesday, Jan. 27because of prolonged winter weather impacts.
  • Conway Public Schools confirmed closures on both Monday and Tuesday due to inclement weather and unsafe road conditions.
  • Various private and charter schools—including Arkansas Lighthouse schools and offices—also noted closures for Tuesday as part of winter-weather precautions.

Districts across other parts of the state have been issuing closure notices based on local conditions, with many reports emphasizing continued low temperatures and icy roads that make school bus routes perilous.

Travel and Safety Conditions

Many of the closures stem from lingering snow and ice on roadways statewide, conditions that could persist into Tuesday morning. Meteorological data show significant snowfall in parts of Arkansas over the weekend as part of a broader winter storm system affecting much of the country, with ongoing cold and hazardous travel contributing to school safety decisions.

What Parents Should Know

Families are encouraged to check with individual districts for the latest updates, as some schools may still finalize decisions or announce delayed starts, virtual learning options, or additional instructional changes later Monday evening or early Tuesday morning. District communications—via websites, automated calls or social media—remain the most up-to-date sources for specific school status information.
