Multiple schools in Alabama could close this week

ALABAMA — A frost advisory across parts of Alabama could lead to school delays or closures Thursday morning as temperatures drop into the mid-30s, according to forecasters.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 35 degrees.

The advisory covers multiple counties across central and eastern Alabama, including areas around Montgomery, Auburn and Tuskegee.

Forecasters warn that frost formation during the early morning hours could create hazardous conditions for school transportation. Bridges and elevated roadways may become slick, and frost on windshields could reduce visibility for drivers.

School districts in affected areas are expected to monitor conditions overnight and may consider delayed start times or closures, particularly in rural communities where students wait outside or travel long distances by bus.

While no widespread closures had been announced as of Wednesday evening, decisions are expected early Thursday based on road conditions and temperatures.

The National Weather Service also noted that frost could damage sensitive outdoor vegetation and urged residents to take precautions.

The advisory remains in effect through Thursday morning.
