OKLAHOMA — A large number of school districts and educational institutions across Oklahoma have announced closures, delays, and early dismissals for Friday, January 23, 2026, as dangerous winter weather continues to affect the region.

Officials cited forecasted snow, ice, and frigid conditions as the reason behind many of the decisions. Norman Public Schools confirmed that classes will be canceled on Friday, with no students or staff expected on campus due to the inclement weather conditions.

In Oklahoma City, Edmond, and Putnam City, school officials also reported that classes are canceled for Fridaybecause of the weather forecast, urging parents and students to stay home and stay safe.

Across northeastern Oklahoma, several schools are adjusting their schedules in response to storm preparations. According to local reports, institutions including Avant Schools, Briggs Schools, and Norwood Schools are planning early dismissals on Friday, with some campuses closing at 1:00 p.m.

Other schools are shifting to distance learning for Friday, including Cherokee Immersion Charter School, Keys School, Liberty Schools-Tulsa County, Tenkiller School, and Whitefield School, among others.

Several additional campuses will either close outright or move classes online in anticipation of continuing hazardous conditions. Tulsa Community College announced that all campuses will close Friday afternoon and transition to virtual classes for scheduled evening instruction.

With winter storm warnings in place across much of the state, school districts have stressed that safety is the top priority. District officials advised families to monitor local weather updates and district communications for any changes, including potential impacts on weekend activities or early dismissals.
