OHIO — A powerful winter storm that has dropped heavy snow and brought dangerously cold temperatures across much of Ohio has led to extensive school closures and adjustments for Monday, January 26, 2026. With many communities under winter weather warnings, local officials have moved quickly to cancel classes and protect student safety.
In northeast Ohio, multiple districts have already announced closures for Monday because of hazardous travel and significant snow accumulation. Campbell City Schools and the Northeast Ohio Impact Academy confirmed they will be closed Monday due to extreme weather conditions.
Central and southeastern Ohio also reported a long list of closures. Numerous schools — including Anchor Christian Academy, Bishop Fenwick, Bishop Rosecrans, Caldwell Schools, Coshocton City Schools, East Muskingum Schools, Granville Schools, Morgan Local Schools, New Lexington City Schools, Northern Local Schools, Ridgewood Schools, West Muskingum Schools and others — are closed Monday, with many extending closures through Tuesday, January 27. Some educational institutions such as Central Ohio Technical College (COTC), Muskingum University and Zane State College are also closed due to the storm.
In northeastern Ohio’s Tuscarawas County, a large cluster of districts have also shut down operations for both Monday and Tuesday, including Buckeye Career Center, Claymont City Schools, Dover City Schools, Newcomerstown Exempted Village Schools, New Philadelphia City Schools, Ridgewood Local Schools, Strasburg Franklin Local Schools and Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools. Monday-only closures were announced for Brown Local, Carrollton Exempted Village, Garaway Local and Sandy Valley schools.
In the Dayton region and southwest Ohio, school closures are similarly extensive. Dayton Public Schools, Beavercreek, Bellbrook-Sugarcreek, Bethel, Centerville, Clark-Shawnee, Fairfield, Hamilton, Kettering, Lakota, Mad River, Miami Valley Career Technology Center, Miamisburg, Middletown, Monroe, Northridge, Northwestern, Oakwood, Piqua, Springboro, Springfield, Tecumseh, Trotwood-Madison, Troy, Valley View, Vandalia-Butler, West Carrollton, Yellow Springs and Xenia schools are closed Monday, and many are expected to stay closed as snow emergencies remain in effect. Several districts are planning remote learning or e-learning options where feasible.
Numerous counties across the state are under snow emergencies, with road closures in effect due to deep snow and blowing conditions. Forecasts also call for continued extreme cold and wind chills that could dip well below zero, adding to travel risks. Officials urge families to check directly with their local school districts throughout the day for updates, as additional closures or changes could be announced if conditions worsen.
