Multiple people dead following vehicle crash in Alabama

ALABAMA — Multiple people were killed Saturday in a multi-vehicle crash near the intersection of Highway 157 and Highway 24 in Lawrence County, according to Moulton officials.

The crash occurred around 11 a.m. and involved multiple vehicles. Authorities confirmed that several people died in the collision, though the names and ages of those killed have not yet been released.

First responders at the scene reported that there was entrapment following the crash. Two additional people were injured and airlifted to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham for treatment.

The intersection of Highway 157 and Highway 24 has been closed while authorities investigate the scene. The Alabama Department of Transportation is rerouting traffic in the area, and officials said motorists should expect delays for several hours.

Moulton Mayor Ryan Jolly asked the community for patience and support as law enforcement and emergency personnel work through the aftermath.

“We would ask the public’s cooperation and your patience in allowing our law enforcement officers to complete their investigation thoroughly,” Jolly said. “We would ask the community find alternate routes in and around the city during this time. More importantly, I want to ask the community for prayers.”

Jolly also praised the first responders who arrived at the scene.

“I want to ask you for prayers for the families of those involved, but also prayers for our first responders who valiantly raced to an emergency scene not knowing what they were going to encounter when they got there,” he said. “Responding to these scenes are very difficult. They take a mental and physical toll on our first responders.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released additional details about those involved.
