MICHIGAN — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for multiple counties across northern Michigan, with snowfall expected to create hazardous travel conditions from Saturday evening into early Sunday morning.
Snowfall Forecast and Impacted Areas
- Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, and Otsego Counties: Snow accumulation of 2 to 5 inches expected from 4 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Brief periods of heavy snow may cause rapid drops in visibility, leading to possible whiteout conditions.
- Central and Western Chippewa Counties: 3 to 6 inches of snow expected between 7 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday, with locally higher amounts possible. Slippery roads and sudden visibility reductions are expected.
- Alger and Luce Counties: Up to 6 inches of lake-effect snow expected north of M-28 east of Grand Marais, with less than 2 inches south and west of Munising. Wind gusts up to 40 mph could lead to blowing snow and additional travel hazards.
Travel Precautions
Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution while traveling, particularly during periods of heavy snowfall.
Lake-effect snow can lead to rapid weather changes, with conditions shifting from heavy snow to clear skies over short distances. Visibility may drop significantly in affected areas.
