OHIO — Several people, including eight students, were injured Thursday evening after a crash involving a school bus carrying the Northwood Local Schools junior high football team.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of County Roads 41 and 32. Investigators said the bus, carrying 26 people, was traveling on County Road 32 and failed to stop at a stop sign. An SUV traveling on County Road 41 struck the bus.
According to OSHP, seven students, the 67-year-old bus driver, and the SUV driver were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. An eighth student was flown by air ambulance to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In a social media post, Northwood Local Schools said the team had been returning from a game in Lakota when the crash occurred. The district expressed gratitude to coaches, first responders, and parents who assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
