FLORIDA — Most public schools across Florida are expected to be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day, according to typical district academic calendars.
Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May each year, is a federal holiday honoring U.S. military personnel who died in service. As a federally recognized holiday, it is widely observed by government offices, banks, and school systems nationwide, including the majority of Florida’s county school districts.
School calendars reviewed across the state indicate that May 25 will be the only day during the month when most students will not be in class due to a holiday. Unlike other months in the academic year, May generally does not include additional federally recognized holidays that result in widespread school closures.
While some individual districts may have minor schedule variations—such as teacher planning days or early release days—these are not typically observed statewide. As a result, Memorial Day stands out as the sole broadly recognized closure date for Florida schools in May 2026.
Following the holiday, most Florida students will return to class for the final days of the academic year, with many districts scheduled to conclude the school year in late May or early June.
