CLEVELAND — The family of 33-year-old Vincent J. Zimmer is grieving his death after Cleveland authorities found his body in the Cuyahoga River.
Vincent, a resident of Avon Lake, was reported missing by his mother, Cathy Zimmer, over a week ago.
On Thursday morning, a city worker spotted Zimmer’s body near the Carter Road Lift Bridge, and Cleveland Fire Department crews quickly responded, recovering his remains just after 10 a.m.
Vincent had last been seen on October 21, and his disappearance had left his family and friends anxious.
According to his mother, Vincent had recently inherited $60,000 from his late father, and bank records showed he had withdrawn $5,000 just one day before he went missing.
Police reports indicate that Zimmer was last seen with his girlfriend, who resides in Cleveland. Officers conducted a welfare check at her residence but found no trace of him.
They also received a tip suggesting that Vincent and his girlfriend may have been staying at her mother’s house, but officers found no one home when they visited the location.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office is now investigating the cause and circumstances of Vincent Zimmer’s death, working to bring closure to his family during this difficult time.
