PENNSYLVANIA — A missing juvenile from Louisiana was found hidden in a basement box at a home in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood, authorities said.
According to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the girl was discovered Thursday after a Childline Report led federal agents and the department’s Special Victims Unit to execute a search warrant at a residence on Davis Avenue.
Investigators said the victim was found concealed inside a sheet-covered box in the basement.
After being rescued, she told police she had met Ki-Shawn Crumity, 26, on Snapchat. Crumity allegedly told her he would help arrange an adoption with a trusted adult.
According to a criminal complaint, the girl traveled from Louisiana and met a woman at a Greyhound bus station in Washington, D.C., who accompanied her to the Pittsburgh home. Once there, Crumity allegedly gave her edibles and alcohol and sexually assaulted her repeatedly over the course of a week.
Crumity reportedly admitted to having sexual contact with the girl and acknowledged knowing she was a runaway, investigators said. The victim told police she felt safest once she was taken to a hospital after being rescued.
Crumity has been charged with statutory sexual assault of a victim between 8 and 11 years older, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault and corruption of minors.
