Missing hiker from Ohio found dead

OHIO — A body believed to be Vendula “Wendy” Rose, a missing hiker from Marysville, Ohio, was discovered in Alabama on Saturday.

According to the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, a hunter found the remains around 11:30 a.m., approximately five miles northeast of Cheaha State Park.

“Upon notification of family, with the assistance of the Cleburne County Coroner’s Office, Coroner Adam Downs, we have evidence to believe that the deceased subject is the missing person from October of this year, Vendula Wendy Rose,” the sheriff’s office stated in a press release.

Rose, 34, had been missing since September after leaving Marysville for a camping trip in Alabama.

She was scheduled to return on October 2 but failed to show up for work. Her car was later found in the parking lot of Cheaha State Park.

Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered several notes described as “abnormal,” along with a magazine and a box of ammunition missing seven rounds.

The sheriff’s office stated there is no evidence of foul play and suggested Rose may have been experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of her disappearance.

A cause of death has not yet been determined.

Further details are expected to be shared during a press conference on Monday.
