INDIANA — Parts of northern and northwestern Indiana could see hazardous travel conditions Saturday evening as a band of snow moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said accumulating snow is expected to move from west to east between about 6 p.m. and midnight, affecting areas that include Benton, Newton, Jasper, Iroquois, Ford, Livingston, La Salle, Grundy, and Kankakee counties. Indiana communities that could be impacted include Kentland, Morocco, Fowler, Oxford, Roselawn, Rensselaer, DeMotte, and surrounding areas.
Snow could become heavy at times, with quick accumulations of one to two inches possible in some locations. Localized areas could see higher totals. The National Weather Service said winds may occasionally gust between 25 and 35 mph, leading to blowing and wind-driven snow that could reduce visibility over short distances.
Officials warned that travel conditions may change rapidly during the evening hours, particularly in areas south of a line extending from La Salle, Illinois, to Rensselaer, Indiana. Motorists are urged to use extra caution, allow additional travel time, and be prepared for slick roads and reduced visibility.
No advisories were in effect as of Saturday evening, but forecasters said conditions will continue to be monitored closely as the system moves through the region.
