(OHIO STATEWIDE) – Berkeley County, WV Sheriff’s deputies responded to a fatal rollover crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 81 near the 6-mile marker.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:32 a.m. when a vehicle traveling northbound veered into the grass median, overturned multiple times, and came to rest on its roof.
Medical personnel on the scene confirmed that one passenger was ejected from the vehicle and another was trapped inside.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their identities have not been released as authorities work to confirm their names, noting discrepancies between U.S. and Mexican identification documents.
The driver, identified as 27-year-old Omar Magdiel Arguelle Ortega of Martinsburg, WV, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies determined Ortega was impaired at the time of the crash. He has been arrested and charged with two counts of DUI causing death.
Sergeant Ritchie is leading the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not yet notified the victims’ next of kin.
