COLUMBUS — A man was fatally shot late last night in west Columbus, and police are actively searching for the suspect.
The incident began just before midnight when a ShotSpotter alert indicated multiple gunshots in the 400 block of South Richardson Avenue.
At 12:01 a.m., a 911 call reported a man lying in the roadway after being shot.
Officers arrived within a minute and found the victim, an adult male, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim was rushed to Grant Medical Center in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries at 12:35 a.m.
Witnesses at the scene reported a dark-colored sedan speeding away immediately after the shooting.
Homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
