ALABAMA — A Phenix City man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his 95-year-old mother, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
John Black, 70, was taken into custody on Nov. 25, two days after a deputy spoke with the victim, who was found with two black eyes and Band-Aids on her arms and legs. Black is being held in the Lee County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond, charged with second-degree assault and elderly abuse.
The incident was first reported on Nov. 23 by another son of the victim, who approached a deputy on patrol in the 9000 block of Lee Road 240. Investigators later determined the assault occurred in the 100 block of Lee Road 498.
According to investigators, the victim told deputies that Black had struck her and that this was not the first time. Records show Black was previously arrested on the same charge in April 2022. He pleaded guilty in January 2025 and received a two-year probation sentence.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-7867.
