OHIO — Tellers at a Woodsfield bank were surprised Wednesday when a baggie containing a crystal-like substance, believed to be methamphetamine, was sent through the drive-thru air tube.

An investigation revealed that 46-year-old Jason G. Smith of Woodsfield had unknowingly sent the substance during a banking transaction. Smith was later located in Wayne Township by Ohio Department of Natural Resources officers.

Monroe County deputies, with assistance from K9 Max, recovered additional suspected drugs and drug-related items from Smith’s truck. He was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Jail.

Sheriff Derek Norman reminded the public that illegal drugs should not be sent through bank drive-thrus. He noted that drugs can be safely turned in at the Sheriff’s Office with “no charges, no handcuffs, just help.”
