Kentucky school districts prepare for possible closures Tuesday

KENTUCKY — School districts across Kentucky are preparing for potential schedule changes as winter weather approaches the region.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday, with mixed precipitation and up to 2 inches of snow forecast.

Many districts say they plan to make decisions early Tuesday morning. Here is an overview of how several school systems will determine closures or delays:

Bullitt County Public Schools

BCPS uses two types of weather-related days:
• Traditional Snow Day, which is made up later
• NTI Day, during which students learn from home
The district aims to make its decision by 5 a.m. Students were sent home with laptops Monday to prepare for NTI if needed.

Carroll County Schools

Administrators monitor weather updates from the National Weather Service and regional meteorologists. Families are notified of closures through text, email, phone, social media, school websites, and local media outlets. The district has 10 NTI days available.

Greater Clark County Schools

GCCS expects to decide by 5:30 a.m. and notify families by 6 a.m. Two plans may be used:
• Two-Hour Delay: Schools begin later, buses run two hours late, morning preschool is canceled, and there is no morning Prosser transportation.
• Schools Closed: An eLearning Day will be used.

Hardin County Schools

HCS staff begin assessing road conditions as early as 3:30 a.m. and remain in contact with transportation officials and National Weather Service meteorologists. The district targets a decision by 5 or 5:15 a.m., with notifications sent by 5:30 a.m. Students have Chromebooks for NTI if needed.

Jefferson County Public Schools

JCPS posts official updates on its website, social media pages, and through School Messenger alerts. The district consults closely with the National Weather Service and checks road conditions, school facilities, HVAC systems, and city traffic before recommending closures.

New Albany–Floyd County Schools

NAFCS has two types of snow days:
• Traditional Snow Days, which may be made up during designated dates, including March 16–20, 2026
• eLearning Days, offered in asynchronous or synchronous formats depending on state requirements and weather severity

Oldham County Schools

If schools close Tuesday, the district plans to use an NTI Day involving remote communication and independent learning. Families are notified through the district website, social media, and Infinite Campus Messenger. The district has 10 NTI days available each year.

Districts encourage families to monitor official communication channels early Tuesday for updates on delays or closures.
