KENTUCKY — The start of the school year in Lincoln County has been pushed back due to construction-related concerns at Lincoln County High School.
School officials announced Thursday that the first day of classes will now be Monday, September 8.
The delay comes after construction crews uncovered unexpected structural issues during ongoing renovation work at the high school.
Superintendent Bruce Smith said the decision was not made lightly but was necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff.
As a result of the delay, the last day of school has been moved to May 27, 2026.
The Lincoln County Board of Education approved a revised academic calendar during its meeting Thursday night.
The updated calendar is available online at lincoln.kyschools.us.
