Kentucky Power files for rate increase for 2026

KENTUCKY — Kentucky Power announced it will file a base rate review with the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) on August 29, requesting approval to raise customer rates to cover rising costs.

In a statement, the company said higher costs of providing electricity, combined with declining population and industry in eastern Kentucky, have created financial challenges. “The loss of population and industry here has created real challenges, pushing costs even higher,” the statement read. “To continue making investments and providing the level of service all customers deserve, regulated utilities apply with the Public Service Commission (PSC) to have rates reviewed and adjusted.”

Under the proposal, residential customers would see a 14.9% increase in their bills, while commercial and industrial customers would face increases ranging from 13% to 15%.

If approved, the new rates would take effect in the spring of 2026.
