GEORGIA — A Fulton County detention officer was hospitalized Tuesday morning after being stabbed by an inmate inside the Fulton County Jail. Officials say the officer is expected to make a full recovery.
A sheriff’s office spokesperson said the incident highlights the unsafe conditions within the jail, noting that inmates can fashion makeshift weapons from materials inside the aging facility, creating ongoing safety risks for both staff and inmates.
Deputies have identified the inmate involved, but the sheriff’s office has not released the inmate’s name or charges. The detention officer has also not been publicly identified.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
