
INDIANA — An innocent bystander was killed early Sunday morning in a shooting on Terre Haute’s west side, according to the Terre Haute Police Department.
Officers responded around 2:30 a.m. Oct. 19 to the 600 block of Wabash Avenue following reports of shots fired with at least one victim. Upon arrival, police found a bystander who had been shot. The victim later died from their injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates the suspect “brandished a weapon for an unknown reason and discharged it, striking both himself and an innocent bystander,” police said.
The suspect was taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.
Authorities stated there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remains active, and officials said additional details will be released as appropriate. Police offered their condolences to the victim’s family, describing the incident as a tragic event.
